JOYLAND – Stephen King

Dubbed the “Master of Horror”, King has scared us by taking the most innocent things like dogs, cars, clowns, kids, and many other things and turning them into nightmares. However, there is another side to King. He can write and tell the most amazing stories that have nothing really to do with horror such as; The Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me (The Body), and The Green Mile. All three known as some of his best work. Well, you can now add another wonderful tale to that list: Joyland.

Twelve years ago Pixar brought us Monsters Inc, a film about monsters who energize their city with the screams of children, soon realizing that scaring kids is wrong and find a peaceful way to do it. The two main stars of that film, Mike and Sully are back. However this is not a sequel, but a prequel to the first film.

They know how to tend it, how to use it, but its creation remains a mystery. During anattack by a neighbouring tribe their flame is lost and so begins an epic, obstacle-filled quest to find another source of the element so precious in their struggle for survival.

The story is told through the eyes of a little boy, Isaac (played by Tyler Chase) who is get’s into trouble at school, does what he pleases, and mostly lies. He lies to his father, his teachers, and anyone who will listen. He comes from a broken home without a mother. His father (played by Rob Patterson) is a war vet and alcoholic who doesn’t really care about anything, not since his wife and Tyler’s mom left.
