WORLD WAR Z – Marc Forster
The zombie craze has been going on for several decades now, with director George A. Romero‘s monumental film released in 1968, the now cult-classic Night of the iving dead. Since then horror flms have never been the same. With almost five decades of zombie films, merchandise, and one of the biggest hit shows in history, The walking dead on AMC, zombies are more popular now than ever.
With a summer full of superhero films, sequels, reboots, and enough action to last a lifetime, it seems befitting to have a new zombie film this summer as well. World war Z is based on the 2006 best-selling book with the same title as the film, by author Max Brooks.
Ex-United Nations investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), is now retired and plans to spend more time with his wife Karin (Mireille Enos), and their two daughters. Living in the busy city of Philadelphia, they decide to get out of town on a little vacation. After becoming stuck in traffic, strange things begin to happen. The streets become utter chaos. Quick thinking Gerry manages to get himself and his family out of the situation unfolding before them.
Still not certain as to what is happening the family takes shelter in a run down inner city apartment building. After contacting his former co-investigators at the U.N. they are helicoptered to safety aboard an aircraft carrier off the coast of New York. Gerry has been asked to help investigate what is going on, how it all started, if there’s a cure, how to get it, and to help end the unfolding epidemic they are now facing.
This nightmare takes Gerry from South Korea, where an earlier taped radio conversation reveals the word “zombie”, which means the Koreans knew something prior to the outbreak. From there he travels to Jerusalem, where he discovers there is already an existing safe zone. After the safe zone in Isreal is compromised Gerry travels to India, where he learns they had been fighting the “undead”, for quite some time before the outbreak became worldwide. Yet again Gerry is on the move, this time to the W.H.O.(World Health Organization), in Wales, UK. To find out if Brad Pitt saves the day … I recommend World war Z.
After much speculation in the film industry, this film is a hit. The storyline was well executed, the zombie attack scenes are incredibly insane, and the writers take of the “zombie genre”, is very interesting, especially the ending. There are some jumps and scares, however those die-hard …zombie fans… might be looking for more gore than this film delivers. Other than that, this film is very entertaining and worth your time. There is a sequel in the works as this first film only touches on a fraction of the original story in the book. So if you are a die hard fan of zombies, World war Z is in theaters now.
