ALL THAT YOU LOVE WILL BE CARRIED AWAY – James Renner

It is time again to bring you the very best in Independent and Short Film entertainment. This time, it is yet another Short film from the Stephen King “Dollar Baby” Program. For those unfamiliar with this program, it is a decades long program that the famous writer, Stephen King, came up with where up-and-coming filmmakers buy the rights to one of King’s short stories for one dollar, make the film, and sends it off to King himself. Most of these films are on the film festival circuit and end up being very successful.

PARANOID: A CHANT – Jay Holben

It’s time again to bring you the very best in Short film entertainment and by doing so that means, yet another review of a “Dollar Baby” brought to you by the Stephen King Program. King’s “Dollar Baby” film program is for up-and-coming filmmakers to show the world their work and at the same time adapt one of King’s short stories to scare fans around the world. This time, our “Dollar Baby” is from filmmaker Jay Holben and he has adapted King’s short story, Paranoid: a chant, from the book, Skeleton crew.

IN THE DEATHROOM – Damon Vineyard

In the deathroom is a short story that was first published in 1999 on an audiobook called, BLOOD & SMOKE by Stephen King. A year later, it was published in Secret windows and in 2002 it was published in King’s collection of short stories called Everything’s eventual. The story takes place in room, a “deathroom”.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE – Francis Lawrence

Now that the big summer blockbusters are behind us, we have the holiday season to look forward to. Along with that comes your Family films, Holiday-themed, Oscar contenders, and a few more box office blockbusters to wrap up the year with. One of those is the first of the season, The Hunger games: catching fire. This is the sequel to the mega-box office hit, The Hunger games which came out in 2012 and based on the World-Wide Best-Selling book trilogy of the same name.

BEACHWORLD – Maria Ivanova

It is time once again to take a break from the big blockbuster films we’re use to and take a moment to spotlight another Short film from the Stephen King “Dollar Baby Program”. The “Dollar Baby Progam” is a film program designed by King many years ago for up-and-coming filmmakers to get their work out there and show the world what they can do with his words. The latest comes from filmmaker, Maria Ivanova and her film, Beachworld.

CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES – Daniel Farrands

Friday the 13th is a cult movie, you can love it or not but it’s impossible to consider this movie outside this flag. So many movies characterized this slasher series, moving from good (chapter 1, chapter 9) to bad quality (chapter 4) ones, strengthen fan population over the world.

CARRIE – Kimberly Peirce

When I was growing up, there was one thing you could bet on in the month of October: Horror movies at your local movie theater. We couldn’t wait to see the next sequel of either Friday the 13th, Halloween, or Nightmare on Elm St. It was the 80′s, they were silly cheese, but they were a lot of fun. Over the past several years, the pickings for horror films in October have been getting slim. This year is no exception. There is only one horror film out this month and it’s a remake. A remake of a classic tale from Stephen King about a young girl with special powers that is known the world over by one single name: Carrie.

MACHETE KILLS – Robert Rodriguez

Let me first tell you, this film is not for everyone. Certain directors have a fan base that pretty much follow them anywhere. If you’ve seen director Robert Rodriguez‘s other films such as; Planet Terror, Desperado Trilogy, or the original Machete then you will be familiar with Machete kills humor, over-the-top violence, and nods to the “grindhouse” B-films of the 70′s.

SPRING BREAKERS – Harmony Korine

I have said many times that I enjoy films that are “hidden treasures” (films that came out that you might’ve missed, but discover later and end up being quite surprised). Discovering these “quieter” films that have slipped past us because of films like Iron Man 3 or Pacific Rim hogging the box office, it is a treat to discover them at home and sometimes they take us by surprise. In this case, Spring breakers took me by a huge surprise.

YOU CAN’T KILL STEPHEN KING – Ronnie Khalil, Monroe Mann, Jorge Valdés-Iga

I have said before that I enjoy all forms of films. It is also nice to take a break from the big budget films at the theater and see something a little more..lower budget. This would fall under the Independent films category. As a full supporter of the Stephen King program “Dollar Baby” films, I enjoy the smaller films for entertainment and quality of storytelling, However, my latest review is not a “Dollar Baby”, but it is Independent and it is Stephen King related….related in a way you won’t believe!
