THE INTERVIEW – Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg

It’s hard for me to write about anything when it is surrounded by so much hype, even if the hype has nothing to do with the quality of the film. I find writing about The Interview additionally complicated because comedy is not my bag, not to say I don’t enjoy comedy but I love me some horror, guts and gore. Mysteriously a copy of this unreleased film fell into my lap from anonymous movie executives who wanted the best film critic in the world to look over their film I found it hard to pass up on the opportunity. I wont say if I got this from friends in CIA or NSA or are who at Sony… or TPB…

WICKED CITY – Yoshiaki Kawajiri

I’m guessing this will date me but I’m so old that we didn’t call it anime, we called it japanimation. The term “anime” didn’t make sense to me, japanimation was made up of the two words that describe what we were watching: “Japan” the country where it was from and “animation” what it was. Around 1997/8 someone told me that japanimation wasn’t politically correct… I still don’t get why, nor do I care but what I’m talking about is so old school I can only call it by what it was to me: japanimation.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 – Francis Lawrence

It’s Thanksgiving this week, and you know what that means? Yes, Turkey, but it’s also the start of the holiday season blockbusters at the box office, with some of the best films of the year we will see right into the beginning of 2015.

INTERSTELLAR – Christopher Nolan

Back in 2005, director Christopher Nolan decided to take over the Batman franchise and begin what would be his, “Dark Knight Trilogy”. No one knew what to expect back then. Fanboys of the Tim Burton Batman films of the late 1980′s/early 1990′s, screamed because they thought their beloved franchise would be ruined. Instead it became the biggest and most amazing superhero franchise to date.

RAMPAGE: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT – Uwe Boll

The clip slides into the base of the gun, you then bull back on the lever and now it’s ready to shoot. This is how you should prepare yourself when you sit down to watch Rampage: Capital Punishment. The movie is an emotional assault weapon. And to write this review, I honestly had to rip myself open to write this review Rampage: Capital Punishment has me a bit choked up, it cuts close the bone.

HORNS – Alexandre Aja

Stephen King‘s first film was based on his book, Carrie back in the 1970′s, from there he has had over 50 films adapted from his works ranging from feature films, television mini-series, television shows, plays, and “Dollar Baby” short films. The torch, so to speak, seems to be passing along to one of his sons, Joe Hill (who starred in King’s film, Creepshow).

A GOOD MARRIAGE – Peter Askin

With the exception of the “reboot” of Carrie in 2013, there hasn’t been a theater release of a Stephen King film since 2007′s The Mist. There have been some straight-to-dvd releases and some that have played on television, but this is the first otherwise.

SCUMBAG HUSTLER – Sean Weathers, Aswad Issa

Film should really be considered by its entire experience, by this I mean first how the film was marketed to you. Did a friend tell you about it or did you see the movie poster and say “I want to see that!” Then there is the how you saw it, did you watch it on your ipad (shame on you if you did) or did you see it in a downtown theater with a leaky roof? And finally there is the film as the core experience of seeing the movie.

GET ON UP – Tate Taylor

I have always been a fan of biography themed films. Movies like Sweet Dreams, The Doors, Amadeus, and others simply fascinated me. This film is about the fall and rise of the greatest soul singer, amazing entertainer, and the “Godfather of Soul”, James Brown. What I loved about this film is how they mixed it all up.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 – Patrick Hughes

You know when the summer blockbuster ride comes to an end? The pickings are slim and the sequels to “average” films are released in August. One of those sequels is the third installment to the Action-Packed franchise, The Expendables. This 3rd part to the mega-hit franchise brings the “old” action stars with a “new generation” of action stars. The best of both worlds.
