THE STUFF – Larry Cohen

So, I have seen a lot of films in my 39 years, so many that sooner or later you are bound to come across a film that just is the biggest piece of crap, the worst acting, the brainless storyline and horrible F/X. I thought when I saw films such as Halloween 3, Jaws:the Revenge, Jennifer’s Body, Twilight and a few others, that those were the worst.

THE EVIL DEAD – Sam Raimi

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am one of the biggest 80′s fans out there. It was my time, my Generation, & oh, what fun we had! In the year 1981, it was an interesting time for films. JAWS and STAR WARS ruled the 70′s, and with EMPIRE STRIKES BACK taking over as the biggest film of 1980, the 80′s were off to a good start and it would only get better! In 1981, in the world of Horror films, there was basically one thing that ruled the box office: slasher films!

PSYCHO – Retrospect

Where to begin… It is hard to believe it has been 50 years since the Master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, showed us that it’s not always safe to take a shower. To never stop at a motel in the middle of nowhere. That a boys best friend is his mother. And that he can scare the crap out of us even 50 years later! THAT is pure genesis that will never be duplicated again. Call it, lightning in a bottle. The man himself inspired film makers for generations. His style of horror film & storytelling inspired us. He changed the way we look at horror films forever and in my oppinion, very few could be put in the same league as Psycho.

JAWS – Retrospect

Summer has started months ago. There is one tradition that I do this time of the year as a personal way of kicking off the best season of the year and that is, I watch the Classic film Jaws. When you think of the 1970′s, many things come to mind. Such as the Vietnam war, pet rocks, hot rods, cool music (well, some of it was), horrible fashions and hair. There was also some of the Best films we’ve ever made come out of the 70′s: The Godfather, The Exorcist, Star Wars, Satuday Night Fever, Grease and many others. However, there is one that started the trend of Summer Block Busters that was a little film about a big, big shark. That Classic film is Jaws.

BLACK SNAKE MOAN – Craig Brewer

This film is very … mis-read. Ricci play’s Rae, a MAJOR sex-addict that is pure white trailer trash, living in the South, & is a wild child with NO remorse AT ALL of what she does or with whom. After a wild drunkin party, Rae is found beaten nearly to death and discovered by the side of the road by a Southern blues musician; Lazarus(played by Samual Jackson). He takes her in & to help her, but once he realizes her sex-addict illness, he chains her up so he can keep her there to redeem her to a normal life.

BURIED – Rodrigo Cortés

Everybody knows how much I love what I do when it comes to writing and talking about films. However, once in awhile, a film comes along that takes me by surprise and I get very excited about it and can’t wait to tell somebody..anybody! This is one of those films. Most importantly, my wife is a little tougher about films than I am. She didn’t want to see this, but I told her those golden words, “Trust me”. And well, she’s glad she did. Another thing I love about telling you about this film is, it wasn’t a big blockbuster. Wasn’t a sequel, a remake, or a disappointment.

CLEAN – Alexander Michaud

Splatter, soft-core and heavy metal are the explosive mixture injected by Alexander Michaud to slide over the sixty minutes of Clean. For some points of view it’s an amateur work, from other it’s mature. At the first group belong photography (not always well-defined) and editing (unsure and unfortunate in breaks), while the direction moves well through close-up, details and rapid movements incrementing tension involving audience to feel like a voyeuristic eye beside a wall.

INSIDIOUS – James Wan

As far back as I can remember, haunted house films have been a part of the horror genre for … ever! Films such as The House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, Amityville Horror, Poltergeist and Paranormal Activity … to name a few. There is something about that “creaky door”, shadows on the wall, strange noises, all the usual igredients that make haunted house films what they are meant to be scary! However, this isn’t a “haunted house” per say, it is something “else” that is haunted. I had heard about this film when it came out and the hype about how it was the scariest film since The Exorcist. Well, for me, that is some pretty big shoes to fill. So, is it as scary as The Exorcist? Read my review and find out.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 – Tod Williams

I have spoken many times (especially this month), on all the different types of Horror films. One of the types I think I love the most is what I call; “It could really happen” catagory.
