My first film review published in the Tri County Sun was, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, May 31, 2011. It seems befitting that 6 years later, to the date, I would be reviewing yet another in the series of these films. Once again, Johnny Depp returns to the high seas as Captain Jack Sparrow in, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.
This sequel to the 2010 film, takes place three years after the original story. Alice has taken over her late father’s business, hitting the high seas. When Alice returns home to England after a very long trip to China, she finds out her ex-fiance Hamish, has taken over her family business. He threatens her with selling her father’s ship, and hangs the fate of her family home over her head as well.
The Gangster film genre has been around since the very beginning of films back in the 1930′s and 40′s going through the 1970′s with The Godfather and the 1990′s with Goodfellas, and now into 2000-teens with Black Mass. This film is based on the real-life gangster, James “Whitey” Bulger, the worst gang criminal to come out of the very dangerous area of South Boston.
