SANTA THE FASCIST YEARS – Bill Plympton
In a time paradox Santa produces war games exploiting the usually quiet elfs as if they were blue-collars. Play tanks and guns replace the usually harmless games which by now have bored the kids and a new product line is ready to invade (the market).
Bitterly ironic story this one presented by Bill Plympton, excellently told by the narrative voice of Matthew Modine and shown at the Future Film Festival 2010. Imagine Santa as a slave-driver, longing to spread his products between the innocent hands of the kids, willing to erase every other festivity to conquer the calendar and have it all for himself.
Four intense minutes which at first sight amuse while catching us by surprise, but on a second analysis annihilate the laughs echoes to focus the attention on the drama of the second world war. Not to be missed.
