THE GREY – Joe Carnahan
There are certain actors that seem to do just about every and any film that comes their way. Actors like Robert DeNiro, Samual L. Jackson, and Liam Neeson. With so many films coming out, some get lost in the shuffle, others are blockbuster hits, and some make you scratch your head and wonder; Why did they film this? Oh yeah, the paycheck.
Well, with Liam Neeson‘s latest film The grey, this was one of those films that proved he can act and there are good films still out there. Considered one of the Best films of 2012 so far by many critics, I had to see this for myself. And man, am I glad I did!
The story is simple: A group of oil workers up in Alaska are off for vacation and heading to their homes for 2 weeks. Ottway (played by Liam Neeson), is a man on the edge after his wife passes away. However, he’s also a top notch huntsman and survival expert. On the way home, the plane hits a terrible Alaskan winter storm that takes the plane down … hard! Out of the whole group, only 8 survive, but the crash is the least of their problems. Surviving the wilderness, winter blizzard conditions, starvation, and lost in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention, the meanest pack of wolves you’ve ever seen on film. Will Ottway and his crew survive? Will they make it home? To find out I highly recommend The grey.
My curiousity was booming when I had heard how good this film was and it lived up to my expectations. It is one of those films that you turn off the lights, cover up with a blanket, and hold on tight! Because this is one hell of a ride, folks! It’s not your typical “survive in the woods” film, there’s more to it. There are scares and jumps when you least expect them and some when you do. It’s scary, yet heat-warming because you find yourself caring for these characters. You wish them the best, but you fear the worst. With an ending that will leave you on the edge of your seat, this is truly one of the better films of 2012 and very much worth your time.
