To be a fan of something, anything (movies, books, music, games, tv shows), you can watch them 100 times, read the books over and over, dress up in Cosplay, go to conventions, have huge collections, heck..even have tattoos of your favorite characters! However, I believe a truly, major, die-hard fan does all those things AND does something else: studies! I mean, why not go deep into your fandom and find out fun facts, secrets, behind-the-scenes stories, and trivia that you may have never known before. One of the ways of doing this is by buying books about that favorite thing. In this case, the subject is, without question, one of the top greatest writers of our time: STEPHEN KING!

When it comes to writing, they say, “one should write what they know.” Well, Mick Garris knows PLENTY, about living in the San Fernando Valley, and equally as much about the film industry. In his last novel, Salome, he covered both of those subjects, and now in his latest, he draws us back in again to the world of, bright lights and movie stars, or should I say…just another day in the Valley!

I have read many autobiographies in my life. I’ve found them to be the answer to that question many of us may have: What REALLY goes on behind the scenes? Some bio’s play it safe and sugarcoat, while others go ALL out, and tell it like it is. In this case, actress Rutanya Alda, has done that very thing, gone all out, and tells it like it is.

Stephen King: “the writer of our generation“. That is how most fans would refer to the biggest best-seller of our time. For the last 40 years, Stephen King has written almost 60 books, 100′s and 100′s of short stories, scripts, screenplays, a musical play, poems, as well as, acting and directing. He is certainly a man who just refuses to slow down, not even after his life-threatening hit and run accident in 1999.

One of my favorite things about books is that I enjoy biographies. I love learning about people, how it was in the beginning, how far they’ve come, and the rise to fame and all the struggles it took to get there. I’m one of those readers who likes to look “behind the curtain” and see what’s being hidden from us no matter how fascinating or scary it might be. Most of the time I’m reading “horror” books (Stephen King mostly), but on occasion I take a break for a biography that just might grab my interest long enough to give it my full attention.

There have been lots of books about the horror genre, the individuals who directed or wrote tales of horror that have scared us for decades. There are many names that come to mind, but if you want the best there is three that have completely changed the face of horror not just in film, but in books as well.
