HALLOWEEN 11 – David Gordon Green

The 1980′s was the high point of what is known as the “slasher film” genre. You could bet your bottom dollar that every October you’d see a sequel to FRIDAY THE 13th, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and yes, HALLOWEEN, playing at your local movie theater. It was a fun time in film, and moviegoers really got into these over the top gore fests, no matter how bad they were. However, many of these franchises burned themselves out, and became movie marathons for those die hard fans, in their own homes.

IT – Andrés Muschietti

IT is now worldwide on the big screen! However, this is not the first adaptation of this terrifying novel, the original was a television mini-series re0leased in 1990, starring the great Tim Curry as, Pennywise the Clown. Stephen King has entertained many of us for over 40 years, with some of the most monstrous villains of all-time, but ask any King fan, and they’ll tell you that Pennywise (IT), is the ultimate boogeyman!

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE – Dan Trachtenberg

The film begins with a young woman, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who has decided to leave her relationship. She packs her bags and goes. Later that night, on a dark and deserted Louisiana highway, Michelle’s car is hit, knocking her unconscious. She later awakens in an unfamiliar place, an underground bunker.

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN – Paul McGuigan

The horror stories of old, such as Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, and of course, Frankenstein, have been adapted to the big screen and told many many times, in many ways. We all know the famous tale of a mad scientist who reanimates a dead body, bringing it back with the help of science and lightening bolts, better known as the monster, “Frankenstein”!

CRIMSON PEAK – Guillermo Del Toro

Director Guillermo del Toro (best known for films such as, Hellboy 1 & 2, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Pacific Rim), is also known for bringing an amazing vision of gothic, class, and the unusual to the big screen. In his latest film, Crimson Peak, del Toro spins a tale of mystery, suspense, and horror with a Victorian gothic setting that sends chills down your spine.

THE VISIT – M. Night Shyamalan

Some filmmakers take several films before they have a true box-office hit on their hands. For M. Night Shyamalan, he hit it out of the ballpark his very first film, The sixth sense in 1999. Since then, he has had a string of misses and very few hits…..until now. M. Night has redeemed himself with his latest scarefest, The visit. This “Twilight Zone” style tale is fitting for this time of year…Pre-Fall…Halloween time coming up…and in typical M. Night tradition there is a plot twist you will not see coming!

HORNS – Alexandre Aja

Stephen King‘s first film was based on his book, Carrie back in the 1970′s, from there he has had over 50 films adapted from his works ranging from feature films, television mini-series, television shows, plays, and “Dollar Baby” short films. The torch, so to speak, seems to be passing along to one of his sons, Joe Hill (who starred in King’s film, Creepshow).
