THE SHAPE OF WATER – Guillermo del Toro

The shape of water

Which film has gotten me this excited? THE SHAPE OF WATER, directed by Guillermo del Toro, who is without a doubt, a self proclaimed fanboy, and perhaps the poster child for fanboys everywhere. Del Toro is famed for bringing us great fantasy stories. HELLBOY 1 & 2, PAN’S LABYRINTH, and PACIFIC RIM, are just a few that bring us into his world, and his slant on addressing every day life situations.

SPIDER-MAN:HOMECOMING – Jon Watts

SpiderMan homecoming

This latest superhero film from MARVEL Studios, is still as exciting as the first, and is what’s being termed, you guessed it, a reboot of a reboot. The first Spider-man film was released in 2002, with Tobey Maquire, and two sequels followed in 2004, and 2007.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES – Joachim Rønning, Espen Sandberg

Pirates of the caribbean 5

My first film review published in the Tri County Sun was, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, May 31, 2011. It seems befitting that 6 years later, to the date, I would be reviewing yet another in the series of these films. Once again, Johnny Depp returns to the high seas as Captain Jack Sparrow in, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

HORNS – Alexandre Aja

Stephen King‘s first film was based on his book, Carrie back in the 1970′s, from there he has had over 50 films adapted from his works ranging from feature films, television mini-series, television shows, plays, and “Dollar Baby” short films. The torch, so to speak, seems to be passing along to one of his sons, Joe Hill (who starred in King’s film, Creepshow).

X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST – Bryan Singer

When it comes to “time travel” films or shows, one thinks of Back to the Future, Bill & Ted, or even Dr. Who, but time travel in a Superhero movie? Would it work? Well, that’s the beauty of Superhero movies…anything is possible. This film is a “double-sequel”. It is a sequel to the 2011 box office hit, X-men: First Class and also to 2006, X-men: The Last Stand. This film brings the cast of characters from both together in one film.
