POPSY – Jon Mann

The short story POPSY, was first published in Stephen King’s short story collection, NIGHTMARES & DREAMSCAPES, in 1993. It’s a story about a man named Sheridan, whose a compulsive gambler, who finds himself in deep debt to a man known only as, Mr. Wizard. Mr. Wizard threatens Sheridan with serious bodily harm if he doesn’t pay up, and has way of paying off his debt is through child trafficking, sending the children on a boat to another country.

LOVE NEVER DIES – Peter Szabo

Stephen King’s short story “Nona” was first published in 1978 as part of an anthology called, Shadows. It was later published in 1985 in King’s short story collection Skeleton Crew. Even though Peter changed the title to Love never dies, the story is the same: a story about a college dropout drifter, Steve (played by Reese Eveneshen) making his way through Maine to Castle Rock.

THE PURGE: ANARCHY – James DeMonaco

This is the sequel to the surprise 2013 hit, The Purge. Set in the future of 2023, the government grants the public onenight to purge (all acts of violence is allowed including anarchy, robbery, and even murder) for 12hrs. Once the purge is finished, no crime is aloud. The government feels this purge helps control crime, lowers unemployment, and poverty levels.

ARGO – Ben Affleck

RED STATE – Kevin Smith

When it comes to 90′s Generation/Independent Icon director, Kevin Smith, a few things come to mind. Low budget, great comedy, Jay & Silent Bob, the ‘Jersey’ film trilogy, and Pop Culture overdose. What doesn’t come to mind is ….horror film? Kevin Smith has entertained us for over 2 decades. Starting his career with the ultimate Independent Comedy film, CLERKS. Filmed in black and white, a shoe-string budget, and staring most of his friends – Smith took Hollywood by storm with his fast dialogue, witty humor, and colorful and unforgettable characters.

PSYCHO – Retrospect

Where to begin… It is hard to believe it has been 50 years since the Master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, showed us that it’s not always safe to take a shower. To never stop at a motel in the middle of nowhere. That a boys best friend is his mother. And that he can scare the crap out of us even 50 years later! THAT is pure genesis that will never be duplicated again. Call it, lightning in a bottle. The man himself inspired film makers for generations. His style of horror film & storytelling inspired us. He changed the way we look at horror films forever and in my oppinion, very few could be put in the same league as Psycho.

RIVER’S EDGE – Tim Hunter

The 80′s hadplenty of teenage films, almost all were sex comedies and it didn’t take a brain surgeon to figure them out. With the exception of The Breakfast Club, there were very few “serious” or “serious subject” teen films. However, there was one that slipped under the radar. A dark themed film about murder, secrets, lower class America, and how dedicated friends can or can’t be. This film; River’s Edge, had all of that, but also included some powerful performances not just by it’s young cast, but by the legendary great actor; Dennis Hopper.
