It’s amazing that the Stephen King Dollar Baby Program has been around for over 40 years! This program has helped so many up-and-coming filmmakers, not to just take their vision of a Stephen King story and put it on the big screen, but it has also opened many doors for them to bigger projects within the film industry.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is the sequel, and “final” (?) film to the MARVEL Universe AVENGERS franchise. It’s also the 22nd film in the MARVEL Universe films. This is one of those releases that is so big, so important, and has been so anticipated, it makes it nearly impossible to review without revealing even the slightest events , but I will do my best to keep it spoiler free.

Stephen King is, without question, one of the greatest writers of our time, known around the world as the scariest storyteller of our age. You can read his books and get scared or enjoy a wonderful tale, but what about the man himself?

I’ve always taken an interest in books, and films, that surround the lives of people of notoriety. Whether they are an actor, musician, or historical figure, it has always intrigued me. We’ve seen these people in the spotlight many times, but it’s what’s behind the scenes that interests me, and grabs my attention. The new film, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, is about the iconic rock ‘n’ roll band, QUEEN, in particular, the bands larger than life lead singer, Freddie Mercury.

The 1980′s was the high point of what is known as the “slasher film” genre. You could bet your bottom dollar that every October you’d see a sequel to FRIDAY THE 13th, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and yes, HALLOWEEN, playing at your local movie theater. It was a fun time in film, and moviegoers really got into these over the top gore fests, no matter how bad they were. However, many of these franchises burned themselves out, and became movie marathons for those die hard fans, in their own homes.

When it came time to write this weeks article, I had originally planned to write “Tony’s Fall/Winter Preview”, but that changed once I heard of the passing of Actor Burt Reynolds (an icon in the film industry for many years), at the age of 82, on Thursday, September 6th, 2018. It’s always sad to lose someone, but it is sometimes hard to lose those people that are part of the celebrity world as well, especially if we have been a fan of their work. I felt some of you would appreciate a closer look at this legendary actor and his career, as there are many of us throughout the years who have enjoyed Burt Reynolds films.

He studied Theatre History at the University of Victoria, as well as English Literature. When James switched from acting to screenwriting, his love for film and Stephen King collided, and in 2017 he brought Stephen King’s short story, THE DOCTOR’S CASE, to life.
